A curriculum for philanthropists and advisors who…

are ready to center equity, root in social movements, and create a more just world.

Radiant Strategies is proud to incubate Freedom School for Philanthropy.

Inspired by the Freedom Schools established during the Civil Rights era, with deep humility we pay homage to the generations of Black leaders who have always guided social change efforts in this country. We contend that each of us must articulate our way into social change work. Freedom School for Philanthropy helps individuals U/HNW philanthropists and advisors do just that.

FOUNDING DNA

Movement leader voices are the founding DNA of Freedom School for Philanthropy. Interviews with well-known movement leaders, as well as with small but crucial grassroots organizations are the backbone of the trainings. We lift up their direct words and ideas to inspire and move U/HNW individuals to act.

PARTICIPANTS

Freedom School for Philanthropy is specifically targeted for U/HNW individuals who are early on their equity journeys but eager to learn and build community with a group of other donors in a similar stage. We are building an Advisors playbook to go alongside the program for advisors to bring the Freedom School curriculum to their clientele.

STRUCTURE

Freedom School for Philanthropy utilizes both in-person deep dive and virtual sessions throughout the curriculum. Virtual sessions include a range of heart, mind, body, and soul activities (see next page) and in-person sessions that focus on the development of a personal Freedom Journey that translates intentions into an actionable story and statement for the future.

We work through 9 virtues—moving from the personal, to our communities, to broader society.

CURRICULUM

“For philanthropists ready to wrestle with the human and strategic issues behind our work, FS4Ph is an invaluable experience! The leadership team’s experience and skill are exceptional— I am hard pressed to think of any group of people I have worked with in the course of my career that is so accomplished and able, yet so patient and empathetic.

“Being here has caused me to reflect and act quicker on issues I care about than I would have otherwise - I would’ve said, ‘I’m too busy, I’ve got too much going on at work.’ It’s amazing to see that this work is already having an impact on my life quicker than I thought it would.”

“I was able to discover the way that I showed up in my own personal and familial wealth and the way I could re-frame my giving to be in deeper alignment with my values. From this work, I found an ease and trust in the process of wealth redistribution that led me to commit to giving 1 million by the end of 2023 and an opportunity to participate in more communal grantmaking with my family foundation.”
